This is how you find the right size

The chest circumference measurement is the primary factor when choosing the correct size. You can use the neck measurement as an additional check. Are you unsure, or does the build differ? Then choose a custom-made Y-harness.

How do you measure the best size Y-harness for your dog?

Wrap a soft measuring tape or string around your dog's chest where it is widest behind their front legs. This should fit snugly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Y-harness suitable for every dog?

For many dogs, a Y-harness is a good choice. Due to its shape, there is room around the shoulders and the harness is easily adjustable. However, a good fit is important. Does your dog have an unusual build, such as dogs with a long back or broad shoulders? Then a custom-made harness might be a better choice.

How do I measure the correct size for a Y-harness?

Chest circumference is the primary measurement. Measure at the widest point of the chest, just behind the front legs, and compare the measurement to our size chart. You can use the neck measurement as an additional check.

What if my dog falls between two sizes?

Does your dog fall between two sizes? Then please contact us. We can probably easily adjust the size, or choose a custom-made Y-harness.

Can I have a custom Y-harness made?

At Cooper & Quint, you can have a custom-made Y-harness. Does your dog not fit well within our standard sizes or does he have an unusual build? Then we can make the harness completely custom-made.

Can my dog swim with a leather Y-harness?

All leather harnesses from Cooper & Quint are made from vegetable-tanned leather. Water can cause the leather to discolour and dry out more quickly.

Has the leather gotten wet? Remove the harness and do not leave it on when you get home. Allow the harness to air dry slowly after swimming and care for the leather regularly with a suitable leather care product.

Does your dog enjoy swimming in the sea? Then make sure to rinse the harness thoroughly with water and dry it with a cloth. Then let it air dry further. This prevents salt residue from remaining in the leather.

What are the advantages of a Y-harness compared to a chest harness?

A Y-harness runs in a Y-shape across the chest, leaving more room around the shoulders. This can be more comfortable for your dog's freedom of movement. Additionally, the harness is highly adjustable around the neck and chest, allowing you to fine-tune the fit precisely.

How do I clean and maintain a leather Y-harness?

Clean the harness with a slightly damp cloth and let it dry at room temperature. Do not use harsh cleaning agents. To preserve the leather, you can treat it occasionally with a suitable leather care product. View all maintenance tips on our maintenance page.
