Meet Shiba Yoti
Share

Hi!
This is me, Yoti, a super sweet, smart and inquisitive Shiba of 3.5 years. Ready for every adventure.
About 3 years ago I found my home with my owners Marie-Eve & Jante via Shiba Rescue . Unfortunately, the beginning of my life was not exactly as a dog hopes to be. Thanks to the dedication of my owners, the many walks outside, in the forest, beach and through the mountains combined with the love they gave me, the wild Yoti has been tamed to the Yoti I am now.
Thanks to me, my owners' outdoor activities are not just reserved for the holidays, but we go out every day. I love feeling the wind in my hair and getting my paws dirty. Curious about my adventures? My owner keeps track of them all via my Instagram channel.
A cat or a dog?
Yoti is the first four-legged friend at Marie-Eve & Jante's home. Where Marie-Eve wanted a dog, Jante was more of a cat lover. That's why she chose a Shiba. They are not too big but also not too small. They don't have too much energy, but can also go along very well with challenging walks in the mountains. In addition, Shibas are often compared to cats. Just like cats, Shiba Inus are very clean, proud and independent.
This last one is also the challenge. They know what they want and therefore seem more difficult to train. Yoti is no exception. Fortunately, Marie-Eve & Jante have found a good way to do this. With respect for the freedom that Yoti wants and by motivating him (there are never enough treats) and respecting him, an inseparable bond has been created.
Captain Yoti
When the winter weather is nice, you can often find Yoti on a sailboat in the Netherlands. Who can blame him? With some wind in your hair, sailing on the lake and then to the beach, what could be better? The perfect combination of sun, sand, salt water and zoomies on the beach!
Yoti really lives up to his name with his sea legs. Although Yoti was not the first name this beautiful Shiba was given. He was first called Lou, but when Marie-Eve & Jante adopted him they gave him a new name to mark a new start. Yoti is derived from the Japanese word "Yotto", which means hunting. With the "i" at the end it is a bit more cheerful. Although Yoti would rather be called Captain Yoti on the boat, because who do you think likes to be the boss of the boat?
It is therefore not surprising that one of the fondest memories together with Yoti is of a trip to Norway and his first trip on the sailing boat.

Traveling with a dog
The couple loves to travel. They love to take Yoti on road trips, explore nature, hike and discover new places all year round. They try to research dog-friendly places and activities in advance!
Do you also want to travel with your dog? Here are some tips:
- First of all, it is important to check with your vet or online if the country has any requirements. Also, do not forget to bring the passport and any necessary papers.
- For the car, the couple recommends starting with a short drive to make sure they're comfortable in the car; they also recommend taking a long walk before a long drive to make sure he sleeps in the car
- Bring his food, lots of his favorite treats, and a few toys and a water bowl (and a water bottle). For Yoti, they also bring chews and licking mats so he can settle down if he gets too excited.
- An adjustable leash is also an absolute must when traveling!
- At the destination, his car cushion can serve as a bed.
- Always give your dog some time to explore the new place and settle in.
- Also, don't forget to add the country code to his ID tag or personalized collar . That way, they can be sure that if he gets lost, they can be reached.
