Meet Long-haired German Shepherd Storm

Longhaired German Shepherd Storm

Hi!

I am Storm, a super sweet, intelligent and beautiful German Shepherd. My wolf-gray coat made Ann Sophie and her boyfriend fall head over heels for me. The wild, authentic and powerful not only suited them perfectly, but also made the name Storm clear. A name that fits me like a glove.

I love to challenge my owners with my intelligence. I can do more than you think and that means I have to train them well to think ahead. 😉 Luckily they are super sweet and let me be a dog as much as possible and I can sniff, dig and do my favorite activity swimming. I can also often go loose, which is really fun!

A unique off-leash area in Belgium

The favourite walking area is therefore not without reason the Orveytbos in Zwevegem. One of the few places in Belgium where everyone is very tolerant of dogs running loose. Both dog owners and walkers/joggers without a dog. There are almost only dogs running loose. If there is someone present with their dog on a leash, then everyone immediately takes the initiative to put their dog on a leash. This makes this place super unique and a breath of fresh air for Ann Sophie & Storm since many off-leash areas are limited and do not offer the freedom that they enjoy so much here.

Respect between dog and owner

It is clear from everything that Ann Sophie loves Storm very much. Working from home as much as possible, cuddling after or during work and long walks through the Orveytbos in Zwevegem.

Ann Sophie also ensures a special bond between Storm, by respecting Storm's uniqueness and contributing to it as much as possible. As Ann Sophie herself says: "A dog should be able to be a dog. As much space and freedom as possible to do and explore dog things: sniffing, digging, swimming,... .. Dogs have to adapt enough to society already."

Ann Sophie has also found a way in the case of unwanted behavior in which there is great respect between dog and owner and in which she puts Storm's well-being first. Not correcting but setting boundaries in a positive way in order to change his feelings towards a certain trigger. A way that often takes a little longer, but ensures that the bond between dog and owner remains very good. And not unimportantly, is also better for Storm.

Currently, Storm's reactivity on the leash to other dogs is also being worked on in this way. To do this properly, there is a small break from Storm's work as a SAR Dog.

SAR Dog Storm

What is a SAR Dog?

SAR is the abbreviation of 'Search and Rescue'. Here dogs will track down missing persons by means of airscenting. They search for all human scents in the area, in contrast to mantrailing where a dog searches for a specific person based on a scent object of this person. When a SAR dog finds a person sitting or lying on the ground, he will refer by barking on the spot until the owner is at the location. Storm is currently on a short break. They expect to pick this up again in the near future.

When asked why Cooper & Quint, Ann Sophie was clear.
