11 favourite walking accessories

Having a dog means taking lots of walks. It is best to be prepared for those daily walks. We have established a regular routine in our walks and walk times, but we also have a list of favourite things we like to take with us on walks.

There are various ways you can take everything with you. We find a hip or shoulder bag very handy, this way we avoid having some stuff sitting in yesterday's jacket 😉 But you can also choose to fill your pockets with all the important things before each hike.

Whatever you take with you on your walks we've listed our 11 favourite items for a walk with your dog for you.

1. Dog treats broken down by treat size

Most dog treats are quite large. Want to treat your dog but not serve him a meal right away? Then break the treats into small pieces. Experience shows that even for a quarter of a treat a dog is willing to do a lot.

2. Dog waste bags

Untidied dog waste is annoyance number one towards dog owners. So make sure you clean up everything neatly. With the dog waste bags from Sustainble People, you'll have bags that are nice to the touch and 100% biodegradable.

3. An extra leash/collar in case yours breaks

.

It will happen to you, your dog gets loose. Every dog owner's nightmare. So always take an extra collar and leash with you. Also handy if you find a dog somewhere.

.

4. Your mobile phone with the phone numbers of your vet and a local taxi company.

.

An accident can happen at any time. Good if you can contact your vet quickly. If you are unexpectedly far away from your car, a taxi company could be the solution.

5. Card of people to call should something happen to you during the walk.

We obviously hope it doesn't ever happen, but should something happen to you, it's handy for everyone to be able to quickly find who to call and how to look after your dog. We use a special card for this purpose. You can download it here.

6. Photo of your dog

Do you take so many photos of your dog? Handy! If you lose your dog on a walk, show one of these photos so other people can join in the search.

7. Extra bag to put your coat in or fill it with

.

Walking with children and the dog is not only fun, you also discover a lot of nature. From stones to shells to leaves and nuts in the woods. So it's handy to have a bag with you to put your things in. The shoulder bag by Cooper & Quint doesn't weigh much and can be folded easily.

8. Torch, reflectors when walking your dog at night

.

During the autumn and winter months, it's nice if your dog is visible. We find small lights on the dog's collar super handy. You can also attach them to your coat or bag to keep yourself visible.

9. Foldable drinking bowl and water for your dog.

If you go for a longer walk, make sure you have water for yourself, but also for your dog. A foldable drinking bowl takes up little space and allows you to create a water point for your dog at any location.

10. Vaseline

The many walks have their effect on the soles of your faithful four-legged friend's feet. A dog runs over everything with the soles of its feet. From gravel to asphalt and from water to ice. Especially in the winter months, road salt can have its effect on your dog's soles. Lubricate these with some Vaseline before going for a walk. That way, the salt can leave nasty marks. Do clean the paws with a damp cloth after walking.

.

11. Moist wipes or towel

.

Some dogs tend to find the smelliest bits of grass to roll around in, and sometimes it takes too long to wait to clean them only when they get home. Super handy to have some biodegradable wet wipes on hand for these emergencies.

What other items do you always carry with you on walks?
